Environmental conservation

The Device Solutions Business of Samsung Electronics has introduced pollution prevention facilities optimized to the properties of different pollutants,
and uses these facilities to minimize the adverse environmental impact of air and water pollutants as well as reduce the overall quantity of waste materials
generated during the manufacturing process. In addition to complying with applicable laws and regulations, the Device Solutions Business has also established
and has been operating treatment facilities at multiple stages of the manufacturing process in order to minimize emissions of pollutants. Furthermore,
the company applies the pollutant limits more strictly than the limits required by laws and regulations, and operates a Tele Monitoring System (TMS),
a pollutant concentration surveillance system, 24 hours a day.

Greenhouse gas reduction

The semiconductor industry consumes a great deal of electricity by operating facilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and inevitably produces greenhouse gases while manufacturing products. In acknowledging that reducing greenhouse gases is absolutely vital for the company, the Device Solutions Business of Samsung Electronics is making every effort to prevent the increase in greenhouse gas emissions caused by the continuous growth of the semiconductor industry (e.g., from the increase in production due to increased demand), and plans to apply Best Available Technology (BAT) to new production lines and reduce greenhouse gases by 37% of the estimated total (i.e., Business as Usual (BAU) scenario) by 2030.

To achieve these goals, the Device Solutions Business uses high-efficiency energy facilities and technologies during the purchase and design phases, and constantly strives to expand the use of a high-capacity perfluorinated compounds (PFC) treatment facility that Samsung Electronics has developed—the first of its kind in the industry.

Air emissions management

In the manufacturing process, there are inevitable by-products that can affect the atmosphere. The Device Solutions Business of Samsung Electronics invests a great deal in minimizing the negative effects such pollutants have on the environment by, for example,? replacing equipment and improving processes. We applies the air pollutant limits more strictly than the limits required by laws and regulations which is 30% under Clean Air Conservation Act? and operates a Tele Monitoring System (TMS), a pollutant concentration surveillance system, 24 hours a day.

Water management

We recognize the importance of water resources in maintaining a sustainable society and conducting business, and fulfill our social responsibility to protect these valuable resources. Our efforts to optimize water use at our facilities range from daily commitments, such as replacing old valves with new ones and improving the control of tower drain valves, to structural improvements, including manufacturing proces improvements and the establishment of a recycling system. In addition, we celebrate World Water Day on March 22nd and conduct activities to preserve streams and marine ecosystems

Conservation of resources

Thanks to continuous efforts to recycle waste generated from the manufacturing process, Samsung currently recycles 97% of all generated waste, including recovered energy. We recycle waste synthetic resins as a source of plastic, and sludge as a source of cement and fill materials. We also refine or reuse waste chemicals internally. The company will continue to recycle more items to abide by the corporate principle of 'Waste is a potential resource.'
